The COVID-19 pandemic has stopped all kinds of celebrations for now. Here is one that is safe-the car parade!

Has it been six weeks already? Are you tired of all this?
I know I am.
Working from home, making sure my kids stay on task, and trying to keep everything afloat is my everyday routine. While I never minded working from home when my kids were younger, this is very different. I am not blogging and writing articles, I am running a school. There are still deadlines, responsibilities, and year end activities to plan and finish.
Leaders are lamenting online how much they miss their troops. For some, they will not be able to hold ceremonies for their Ambassadors who will be bridging to adults, as they will be off to college (hopefully) and starting a new chapter of life. While troops can bridge in the fall, who will be returning is one concern of many leaders. In order to maintain social distance, troops cannot gather in person.
What is a fun activity that the girls can do together?
The car parade!
I have participated in a few of these, and quite honestly, it is so much fun! First of all, I have a legit reason to get in the car and leave the house, and it does not involve going to the grocery store.
Second, I am bringing a smile to a person whose birthday cannot be celebrated in the typical way. This is especially true for the little ones in the preschool where I taught for so long. The kids are smiling, jumping up and down, and are overjoyed at everyone who has showed up to celebrate them.
Third, it permits me to get my crafty side going and step away from working at the computer. My two daughters, who have worked at the preschool with these kids over the years, also help me decorate. They join in the car parade with me.
Who Needs a Car Parade?
I mentioned in a previous post, 5 Safe and Easy Ways to Stay Connected to Your Troop During the COVID-19 Pandemic, one activity I suggested doing was a car parade. There may be a girl in your troop or one of the leaders who has a birthday.
If that is not the case, ask in your troop if there is a parent, a grandparent, a sibling or a neighbor who could use some cheering up.
Did any of the girls in your service unit earn their Gold Award? Not only is this a great reason for a car parade, this young woman is a shining example for the younger girls.
Once you have a person in mind, make the contact so s/he will be outdoors and ready for the celebration. You will need to set the time and plan the route so everyone knows when and where to start.
