As you head into your second year with your troop of 5th graders, you’re in a unique position: you know your girls better, you’ve experienced the rhythm of a Girl Scout year, and you’re ready to help your troop grow into even more confident, curious, and capable young leaders.

Last year, your troop took their first steps into the Junior level. Maybe they earned their first badges, led their first meeting activity, or tackled a more challenging service project. This year, you get to build on that strong foundation. If they have been scouts for any length of time, they are familiar with how Girl Scouts works, and they’re beginning to find their voices and explore what leadership really means. You’ll notice your girls more eager to share ideas, take on responsibility, and make decisions that shape their troop experience. They can take girl led to the next level.

First Girl Scout Junior Meeting of the Year 2

First Girl Scout Junior Meeting Year 2

It has always been my opinion that the first Girl Scout meeting needs to be fun, engaging, and easy to plan. When I was a leader, we always did ice breakers and crafts at our first meeting before we got down to the business of discussing and voting on what the girls wanted to do that year. I had a new girl join in fifth grade, and she did not attend the same school the rest of my girls (except one) did. Making her feel welcome was one of the most important things we did at that meeting.

To make your leader life easier and ease you back into planning, I have created a resource just for second year Junior leaders.
