In my opinion, one of the most important aspects of leading a Girl Scout troop is teaching the girls about those who are in need. Service projects do not always have to be enormous undertakingsā¦sometimes something simple will do.
This is especially true this year. The Coronavirus has certainly changed everything about our lives. Doing a hands on service project is a challenge this year, especially for troops who can only meet via Zoom and Google Classroom.
Here is an easy virtual Girl Scout Community service project that scouts of all levels, even Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors, can do.
Troops of all ages can participate in the Sending Smiles service project. Started by two sisters and their cousins who wanted to make a difference, it has grown over the years.
First, find an organization that wants your postcards. There are suggestions on the website that you can find here. You order the postcards you need. The girls can write jokes, draw pictures, place stickers on the postcards…anything you all can agree upon. This is a great opportunity to earn the light green Daisy petal, Considerate and Caring.
