The emails from my Service Unit have been flowing steadily for the past week as the plans for Bridging to Adult are forming. Along with honoring girls who have earned their metals, this is the first time they are honoring girls who are aging out of Girl Scouts. They are doing this because I asked if girls who had participated in Girl Scouts for 13 years could be recognized. I mentioned to them that not all girls “Go for Gold” and those who have remained in scouting deserve special recognition. They liked the idea! This year, my two scouts and one other will be recognized as they all receive their adult pins.
To honor this scouting milestone, I wanted to give my daughter and her friend something special to honor their childhood-long commitment to Girl Scouts…and I found there was nothing to give them! There was a ton of stuff for Gold Award earners and nothing for those who stuck with scouts and did not earn the award.
With my daughter’s help, we created an image to place on a patch (these will be in my Etsy Shop shortly). I took our image and placed it on an assortment of items on Zazzle (more will be created as time permits). They range in price and almost all come in different sizes. From laptop stickers to coffee mugs, jewlery boxes to notepads, there is something for every budget. Whether the young woman is staying at home for trade school, community college or going to work, or if she is leaving to attend college or start the next chapter of her life elsewhere, there are many useful and meaningful items that you, their leader, can give.
