With the rising cost of everything, leader may be looking for cheap unofficial Girl Scout uniforms. Here are places where you can find some.
Late last fall, the GSUSA elected to have a membership dues increase that sent leaders into an uproar. While the cost of dues will remain the same for the 2025-2026 scouting year, the new increase will beto $45 for the 2026 membership year and then to $65 in 2027. The organization’s National Council Session, on October 19, 2024, voted to approve the two-step increase, which amounts to a $160% hike prices.
This increase will impact every troop and every family that has not just one Girl Scout, but multiple scouts. How can a family that is just making ends meet afford a new uniform when their child bridges to the next level?
While some troops fund the new uniform and membership dues, the increase will make it more difficult to do so in the ensuing years.
How can leaders lessen the burden on their families and their troop funds?
They can use unofficial Girl Scout uniforms!
While there are people who may criticize wearing an unofficial Girl Scout uniform, I believe that it is more important to keep the girls in scouting than what they are wearing. Combine this idea with doing the old badge program, and leaders can keep more of their troop funds in the bank for other things.
